A refined, scholarly theme for academic journals with elegant typography

What it does

Opus replaces the default OJS reader interface with a refined, scholarly design built for serious academic publishing. Every public-facing page gets a sophisticated look — the homepage, issue table of contents, article pages, archive, and search results.

How it works

  1. Upload the theme through your OJS admin panel (Settings → Website → Plugins)
  2. Activate Opus in Website → Appearance → Theme
  3. Pick your color palette, typography, and footer style from the theme settings
  4. Your journal’s public pages immediately reflect the new design

Customization

Opus is designed to work beautifully out of the box, but every journal is different. From the theme settings panel you can:

  • Choose a color palette — each palette adjusts the accent color, gradients, and subtle surface tones across both light and dark modes
  • Pick a font pairing — select from four carefully curated combinations that balance academic gravitas with readability
  • Set footer style — dark footer for contrast or light footer for a softer feel
  • Dark mode — enabled by default, respects the reader’s system preference with a manual toggle available

Design philosophy

Opus prioritizes scholarly aesthetics and clear information hierarchy. Article metadata, author affiliations with ORCID badges, DOI links, and download options are organized in a structured layout with monospaced labels and metric strips. The serif-first typography and restrained color usage create a calm, focused reading environment suited to long-form academic content.
